Anybody upgrading to 10.5.6? - brell - 12-25-2008 Anybody upgrading to Mac OS X 10.5.6? A word of advice then: Go to http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mail_Update and download and install the update before running Mail. Re: Anybody upgrading to 10.5.6? - aquaMat - 12-27-2008 Thanks for that information / warning, brell. I have - so far - hesitated to upgrade to (even) 10.5, because this computer is my main one, also responsible for the whole recording studio, on which a lot of sensitive softwareis running, with a million plug-ins etc.. So of course for me, it's almost impossible to know if all of these applications do run without problems on anything over/from 10.5. So for the time being, I stick to 10.4.9 or 10.4.11. But your info is very good to kow.....hope I haven't forgotten it by the time I'll get to installing 10.5.x !!? ![]() Did you have any other troubles whatsoever while or after upgrading to 10.5. ?? Re: Anybody upgrading to 10.5.6? - brell - 12-28-2008 No, not to 10.5. Only to 10.5.6 Re: Anybody upgrading to 10.5.6? - rose - 12-28-2008 I have also upgraded to 10.5.6 but I didn't have any problem on either of my 2 machines. Re: Anybody upgrading to 10.5.6? - josephine - 12-29-2008 Hey aquaMat- recording studio? Do you run ProTools? I just moved my Mbox over to the Mac Mini, which forced me to upgrade to 10.5.3, and it's caused lots of problems! ProTools seems to run fine, but it's slowed down the computer for everything else (even opening a folder takes longer now > ) After I finish a couple of things I may wipe the drive and do a clean install. My advice to you is that if your machines work fine with all of your plug-ins, leave it alone
Re: Anybody upgrading to 10.5.6? - aquaMat - 01-02-2009 Hi Josephine, no, I'm not using ProTools anymore. I used to use Pro Tools Projectin the old days (of the 882/20 interface) and it worked fine for several years. But I needed to upgrade (channelwise) which meant either going down the full ProTools hi-end route (too expensive) or do something different. So I changed to the MotU PCI-System and its 24 I/O interface and I'm really happy with it. Basically I always do it as you said..... if it works I don't change a thing. (I did update to 10.4.11 though, a couple of days ago.... but that's just a minor step I could risk). Re: Anybody upgrading to 10.5.6? - josephine - 01-03-2009 Hi aquaMat- The studio I work at used MotU midi controllers when we still needed to sync with tape machines, but that now everyone is using digital video all the sound stages are converting to ProTools HD systems. Very nice, if you have the money :o The studio also looked at something called Pyramix. The digital video system is kind of cool, but it's Windows based and we need to be on Macs. (Yay! I don't like PCs.) Re: Anybody upgrading to 10.5.6? - aquaMat - 01-03-2009 Of course, of course...... No Windows-based system will ever get a foot into my studio !! ![]() No matter how many cute little freeware softsynths or cheap me too-applications exist for Windows...... I'll never like it. |
