I wouldn't say this is a loophole, arevn.... it's just the logics and physics of a computer-generated creature at work here...and I find it rather charming....makes sense to me (and I have also used it, BTW).
The ladder jump..... that probably IS a loophole ! Hahaha

But, when Jack is staying on a floor, his jump is as high: just a little more than THREE (starting from ZERO and not from SIX). Why? Because he is always able to jump onto a block of THREE high and not onto one of FOUR high. It is that simple.

Exactly. :-) This is just the way the game is built because it makes sense from a programming point of view.
Even so, I think of it this way: Jack prepares himself to land when he jumps, so he can fall (from the height of his jump) further. When he simply walks of a ledge, he isn't fully prepared for the landing, and so he can not fall so far.
BTW, I hope people don't mind me resurrecting year-old threads! The information is still relevant. :-)
