In MM1, the lantern is universal for the whole mansion. In MM2 there can be many lanterns, each of which defined for a certain part of the mansion. This means that the lantern in a converted MM1 mansion will not work unless you define the whole mansion as the light-up range in the MM2 builder. But you should also be able to add lanterns to the converted mansion if you want to.
